School Rules
In reception and nursery we have been learning more about our school rules. This week we have focused on ‘we keep hands, feet and objects to ourselves’. We have thought about what this might mean and how it can help us in school. After our discussion we all made a hand print poster to remind us of this school rule.
What a busy week!
This week in reception we have been busy exploring our indoor and outdoor classrooms. We have enjoyed making new friends and even started learning phonics!
British History Experts!
Year 5 and 6 are on a chronological learning journey through Britain!
For the last few weeks, we have learnt all about life in Britain during the New Stone Age (4,000 BC – 2,500 BC) and the Bronze Age (2,500 BC – 800 BC). Here is some of the information we’ve learnt so far!
So, what’s comes after the Bronze Age? Well, this week we’ll be adding to our timelines and learning all about the Iron Age!
Year 4 – 16th September 2022
This week’s spellings all have the same sound but are written in different ways:
eight
famous
straight
strange
weight
tray
great
snake
brain
they
everyday
We call the different ways the same sound is spelled alternative graphemes. Take a look at the table below to help with this:
Science: What is a classification?
We’ve been busy biologists in our science lesson this week! 😁
We used Venn diagrams to help sort and classify animals using different criterion. Murielle, Aubree and Lilly thought of classifying animals according to their number of legs or if the animal had fur. Jacob, Evie and Liam classified animals by scales or if the animal had a tail.
Check out this short animation. Before we classified animals, we used biscuits to support our understanding of classification. See if your child can chat about the time we classified biscuits..! Here’s a little hint for them…
Year 3 16th September 2022
Next week, we will continue to learn words that contain the ‘ai’ sound. The children will be tested on the words below next Friday:
eight
favourite
tray
great
snake
brain
they
everyday
8 Rs for learning!
This week, in our living and learning lesson we thought all about the importance of each of the 8Rs for learning. These help us to achieve our very best when we are at school.
ready
responsive
responsible
resilient
risk-taking
remembering
reflecting
resourceful
We discussed what these mean to us and how they can make us better learners. The children then shared all of their ideas. We have displayed them in our classroom to help us remember how we can achieve each of the 8Rs for learning.
Challenges
In our classroom, we have lots of challenges linked to our learning. We have a Maths, Reading, Writing, Phonics, Science and Topic challenge. Each child has a challenge chart and all week during choosing time we work hard to complete the challenges and tick them off on our challenge chart. Every Friday we spend some time as a class talking about the challenges. We had lots of certificates today for lots of super learning! Well done, keep it up Year 1!
Enjoying our reading!
There’s been lots of reading this week in Year 2! Today, we spent some time in the library choosing a book to enjoy at home. This will happen every Friday, so please bring these books back each week so that they can be changed. Some children still have books needing to be returned from last year. Please make sure these are returned soon so children can be issued a new book to enjoy.
We’ve also thought about traditional tales and alternative versions – reading The Three Little Pigs and The True Story of the Three Little Pigs. We put on our best growling voices to join in with storytelling and be as fierce as the Big Bad Wolf! See if you can remember and re-tell either of the stories at home. It was hard to decide which version we enjoyed more!
Other reading this week includes our ICT Acceptable Use Policy. The children will be bringing home a copy tonight to read with you at home. It would be great if you could sign this and return to me next week.
Topic
This week, as you may have already seen or heard about, we started our History topic – The Great Fire of London. We learned about timelines and even went into the hall to make our own human timeline! We discussed some new vocabulary:
Past: an event or something that has already happened
Now: what is currently happening
Timeline: a line that shows us events in the order that they happened
Living memory: events that we remember because we’ve experienced them
The Great Fire of London was at the beginning of our timeline, far away from recent events because it happened so long ago. Ask your child if they know when the Great Fire of London was, or even how many years ago it happened!
